Part 1: How do you build a team?

Part 2: Respect your subordinates and colleagues.

Management is about human beings.

Its task is to make people capable of joint performance,

to make their strengths effective and their weaknesses irrelevant.

The final requirement of effective leadership is to earn trust.

Otherwise, there won’t be any followers –

and the only definition of a leader is someone who has followers

– Peter F. Drucker

(Adapted from “Managing for the Future”, P.122)

Leadership is the lifting of a man’s vision to higher sights,

the raising of a man’s performance to a higher standard,

the building of a man’s personality beyond its normal limitations.

– Peter F. Drucker

Drucker Articles Excerpt

“Focus on Contribution”

The effective person focuses on contribution.

He looks up from his work and outward toward goals.

He asks, “What can I contribute,

that will significantly affect the performance and the results of the institution I serve?”

His stress is on responsibility.

The focus on contribution is the key to effectiveness: in one’s own work

(its content, its level, its standards, and it impacts),

in one’s relations with others (with superiors, associates, subordinates),

and in the use of the tools of the executive such as meetings or reports.

(Adapted from “The Essential Drucker”, P.207)
